Malaga Airport operating as hub for international emerging markets

Malaga Airport signs a collaboration agreement with Turkish Airlines to operate as “hub” to 49 international emerging markets with great potential.

Málaga will be closer to the big emerging markets thanks to the collaboration agreement signed in January 2012 by the city’s mayor, Francisco de la Torre and general manager of the airline Turkish Airlines in Andalusia, Halid Koca. Thus, by the airport ‘hub’ or connection of the Turkish company, the city will be connected to 49 airports in Japan, China, Tasting, Abu Dhabi or Dubai.

This agreement does not imply any financial contribution by the Consistory, as both parties understand that the union offers “excellent business opportunities in the medium term.” In this sense, explained that serve to promote and publicize the tourist attractions in the capital markets in China and Japan, Eastern Europe and the Middle East should be given priority in all the studies conducted by the Tourism Institute of Spain (Turespaña).

This agreement is the first trade agreement that provides the City with an airline that operates out of those markets towards the Malaga airport. Indeed, Turkish Airlines opened recently 4 weekly flights from Istanbul (Turkey) to Malaga, flights are often extensions from the above countries, which shortens the distance and travel time and long to bring visitors distance, which so far could only come with a stopover in Madrid or Barcelona.

In addition to the emerging Turkish market approaches, considered of great importance due to the existence of a growing middle class with strong purchasing power and that is attracted by the offer of Western destinations, as well as an important business sector for the segment of congresses and incentives.

Heavy Promotion Actions

The Department of Tourism, as reported by De la Torre, has prepared a set of promotional activities and direct marketing this year, as presentations about the destination to foreign tour operators, familiarization trips to Malaga travel agents specialized in segments of cultural tourism, incentives, conventions and congresses and press, among which will be the journalists of the travel magazine for the airline, which is present in 180 routes around the world.

The aim of the Consistory is to  inform about the excellence of the destination for professionals to see first hand the tourism in the capital. Thus, the city may be entry and exit point, with overnight stays and visits within the commercial channels and circuits that perform long-distance touring in Spain.
