We all know that Barcelona is one of the main tourism destinations in Europe. However, this is not the only thing that makes this city more and more important in this sector. The website “about.com” (convention sector page) has recently published the world’s 5 most popular convention cities and Barcelona is the 3rd of the ranking.
Why is Barcelona in the top 5 International Convention Cities?
The main reason is the seven-year deal for the GSMA Mobile World Congress. Barcelona will be organizing this huge event until 2018, what means that the capital of Catalonia will be full of professionals in this sector and other visitors at least for five more winters.
In addition to the GSMA Congress, other international events are hold in Barcelona. The city’s weather, gastronomy and leisure places are viewed as positive points for enterprises and associations, who decide to celebrate their events in this city. Moreover, the good quality of hotels and the huge amount of shops that Barcelona offers are liked by the attendants to the congresses.
Barcelona is the 3rd in this ranking, but above it there are Singapore and Vienna, in first and second position respectively. Below Barcelona, there are Paris and Berlin.
