The ITMA Trade fair produced about 800 million € turnover in Barcelona and received more than 100,000 professional visitors
ITMA, the textile machinery exhibition of the world’s largest, opened on 22nd til 29th September in Barcelona.
Speaking to the press, the director of the Spanish Association of Textile Machinery, Carmina Castellà, explained that ITMA, is the world’s largest exhibition of textile machinery and Fira de Barcelona had to open two new wards in order to qualify L’Hospitalet.
This exhibition of textile machinery occupies about 90,000 square meters of rented space, reaching 240,000 of gross area.
For the first time, it occupied the entire premises of Fira Gran Via, L’Hospitalet, the eight wards, since the event have released two new exhibition halls, 5 and 7, which provide more than 40,000 square meters.
The fair had about 1,350 exhibitors from 45 countries and 100,000 visitors, 90% of them foreigners.
According to Castellá, the ITMA, held every two years alternately in Europe and Asia, had not been held in Barcelona because there was not enough space, and pointed out that few venues can host events of this nature.
The director of expansion of Fira Barcelona, Pere Camprubí, stressed that the ITMA is the largest trade show held in Barcelona in the last three years and pointed out that some of the machines on display take longer than a month to be mounted .
Another curiosity of the show is that the machines are set to run every hour for 20 minutes because, otherwise, do not listen to conversations in the room.
Although the visitor profile is different, we must remember that the Mobile World Congress this year saw some 60,000 visitors. 70% of the exhibitors at ITMA are European and 6% Spanish, for a total of 90 Spanish companies.
