Madrid Convention Bureau (MCB) plans to hold five hundred conferences throughout the year. Excellent news for business tourism in the capital, evidenced in a report released a few days ago by Governing Board and explained in a press conference by Deputy Mayor, Miguel Angel Villanueva. “2012 will probably be the best year for tourism meeting in Madrid, hoping to break the barrier of 500 events” said Villanueva.
In fact, four major international events already confirmed to the capital could attract more than 35,000 tourists who would perform some 130,000 overnight stays, making an impact of more than 40 million in spending between organizers and participants.
Some of these planned events are Civil Air Navigation Services Organization (CANSO) WORLD ATM 2013, with 5,000 expected participants, the European Atherosclerosis Society Congress (EAS 2014), to which 4,000 people are expected to attend, the XVI World Congress of the World Psychiatric ( WPA 2014), with estimated participation of 8,000 people, and the Congress of the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO 2014), the expected 18,000 attendees.
