E&TB Group has organized an incentive trip of 3 days in Madrid for a famous Russian bank in May 2012. The group stayed at the Hotel Wellington, a building coming from the best Spanish architecture of the last century. Located within the Art Triangle, an area of Madrid where we can find the most notable museums, such as the Prado or the Thyssen, the ideal situation for a group wishing to discover Madrid and all its treasures!
The first day the group of 14 people enjoyed a personalized city tour through the streets of Madrid and stopped to visit three of the most famous museums of the city. They had a private visit of the selection of masterpieces of the Prado museum which features one of the world’s finest collections of European art, from the 12th century to the early 19th century. Not far from there, The Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum welcomed them through its impressive historical collection that counts more than 1600 pieces. To finish with a more modern style, they went by the Reina Sofia Galleries to admire Impressionist, Expressionist European and American paintings. After the lunch at the very typical Trobador Restaurant specialized in Mediterranean cuisine, the group had a free afternoon to keep on discovering the city by themselves or to relax before the show planned for the night. Indeed the group had a not to be missed appointment for dinner at El Corral de la Morería, selected by the Michelin Guide 2009 and considered as the best Tablao Flamenco in Spain. The best place to enjoy the performance of some of the finest professionals of this discipline.
The second day was dedicated in the morning to a bus tour to visit the surroundings of Madrid: Aranjuez with its remarkable well-preserved arena and the historic city of Toledo and its gothic cathedral of the 15th century. The group stopped there to eat at the avant-garde Palacete Restaurant based on the local Castillan y Mancha gastronomy and headed by the creative chef Manuel Olveira Seller. Then, the group came back to Madrid to see a Corrida in the arena of Las Ventas, regarded as the home of bullfighting in Spain. The chosen place for the dinner has been the Casa Botin Restaurant, recognized by Guinness Book of Records as one of the oldest restaurants in World. It has been founded in 1725 and is still hold by the same family!
During the last day of the trip, the Russian group went to visit the Palacio Real, official residence of the Spanish royal family but actually used for state ceremonies. Then they had lunch at the reference restaurant Los Galayos located in the historic center of Madrid directly on the beautiful “Plaza Mayor” for more than more than one hundred years ago. They went on with a cultural afternoon at the Real Theater to assist to the representation of the French Opera Cyrano de Bergerac interpreted by the Spanish opera singer, Plácido Domingo. After the show they went to have dinner at the Taberna del Alabardero, a classic Spanish tavern situated in a privileged surrounding, close to the Royal Palace and well-known for its selection of tasty tapas.
