The spanish montaditos

A Montadito is a traditional small sandwich made of a flavorful topping on a short slice of baguette. They are very elaborated and famous in Spain. While the tapas can be defined as a range of warm and cold appetizers served in small portion, Montaditos have their own concept and do not need any fork or knife to be eaten. There are Montaditos for all tastes: chicken, beef, prawns, sausage, vegetarian, etc.

We have selected here some of the best recipes of Montaditos to eat and share at home surrounded by friends with a fresh beer in a total Spanish spirit!

MONTADITO – MANCHEGO CHEESE, CHORIZO, PIPARRA PEPPERS, AND ANCHOVY STUFFED OLIVES

Ingredients:

  • 6 ounces Manchego Cheese, at room temperature
  • 9 ounces Spanish Chorizo, (skin removed, sliced on diagonal 1 inch thick)
  • 11 ounces Piparra Peppers
  • 12 ounces Anchovy Stuffed Olives

Instructions:
Top each slice of bread with a wedge of softened cheese and put a slice of chorizo on it. Next add a piparra pepper, and finally an anchovy stuffed olive above all. Skewer the entire montaditio with a toothpick to hold together.

MONTADITOS – SARDINES AND OLIVES

Ingredients:

  • 8 ounces Piquillo Peppers
  • 4 ounces Premium Sardinillas (Baby Sardines)
  • 11 ounces Anchovy Stuffed Olives
  • Masia el Altet Extra Virgin Olive Oil

Instructions:
Top each slice of a fresh crusty French baguette with a slice of the piquillo pepper. Then top with a baby sardine and, finally, top with a toothpick-skewered green olive.

MONTADITOS – BONITO AND PIQUILLOS PEPPER

Ingredients:

  • 4 ounces Bonito Tuna
  • 8 ounces Piquillo Peppers, julienne cut
  • Masia el Altet Extra Virgin Olive Oil

Instructions:
Top each slice of fresh crusty French baguette with slice of the piquillo pepper. Then top with a chunk of Bonito tuna. Serve and enjoy!
