The GSM Mobile World Congress 2013 has broken all its records. Barcelona has become the world’s capital city during the congress, which has brought more than 70,000 participants from 200 different countries.
For the first time since Barcelona holds the MWC, the venue of the event has changed. This year it has taken place in ‘Fira de Gran Via’, in L’Hospitalet, a city just next to Barcelona. Eight pavilions have been occupied during the three days of congress (February 25th-28th) by 1,500 companies that have been presenting their products. This year the event has hold more conferences and more bars and restaurants have been opened thanks to the 94,000 m2 of the place.
This year not everybody though that the MWC would succeed. Such important companies as Android declined to attend the event, but at the end it has been the congress’s best year. MWC has consolidated as the best showcase where the companies can present their products. Since 2009, brands that take part in the event experienced positive growth in the following year.
Mobile World Congress has not had also effect in technology; it has filled up the hotels of Barcelona. Just the 3% of all the rooms of the hotels were available during the three days of congress.
