Girona has recently achieved the 2016 Europe Award after being considered a “promoter of the European ideal”. This prize, the increased tourism and other events as the recording of Game of Thrones have turned Girona into a real trendy city.
The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) has awarded the city of Girona (Gerona, in Spanish) with the 2016 Europe Award. This assembly values the “strong commitment” of the Catalan city in favour of Europe. This award has been given to a “solidarity and educational city” that promotes “peace and respect for Human Rights”.
This prize will help Girona to be even better considered by all. Regarding the MICE Sector, the initiative Patrimoni de Catalunya (Heritage of Catalonia) undertaken by the Girona-Costa Brava Convention Bureau has greatly increased the number of events hold at historical venues in Girona.
Moreover, the well-known Temps de Flors (Flower Time event) which takes place in May is beginning to be popular out of Catalonia and even out of Spain.
In addition to everything said above, many people have visited this Mediterranean city in the last months because of the recording of Game of Thrones. Some chapters of this popular series have been recorded in Girona!
