Port Vell means ‘old harbour’ in Catalan, and it is one of the most important marinas in Barcelona. Although the harbour was an iconic part of the city’s old town, it was renewed prior to the 1992 Olympic Games. Nowadays, it has become a worldwide known marina. Every year it provides accommodation to tens of boats attracted by Barcelona.
The English firm Salamanca Investment operates the marina under government concession. The company has planned a remarkable breakthrough for the marina that will start in 2013. According to its website, “the significant investment in state-of-the-art infrastructure and new seven-star services will position the marina as one of the leading super yacht destinations in the world.”
The new Port Vell’s marina will provide 150 berths for top-class yachts and it will be able to accommodate pleasure boats up to 180 meters. In other words, the future harbour will have room enough for the bigger yachts (up to 165 meters long). Top-class facilities will be constructed in the new layout, including a clubhouse with pool, spa and luxury restaurants.
With an investment of €26 million, Port Vell will have one of the most important marinas of the Mediterranean Sea. Without doubts, this harbour will be a new touristic attraction in the city of Barcelona, which was voted “the world’s top beach city” in 2011 by National Geographic.
