The urban area of Barcelona, with a population of 1,6 million, is located on the Meditarrean coast between the mouths of the rivers Llobregat and Besòs.

Founded as a Roman city, Barcelona became the capital of the county after merging with Kigdom of Aragon and being one of the most important cities of the Crown of Aragon.

Beseiged several times during its history, Barcelona has a rich cultural heritage and today is an important cultural centre and a major tourist destination.

The Modernisme movement had its expression at the ends of XIX century with the architecture, specially the work of Antoni Gaudí , Lluis Domènech i Montaner and painters as Santago Rusiñol and Ramon Casas.

The city of Barcelona historically hosted main importants exhibitions during years, most important are listed as:

-       Exposición Universal de Barcelona in 1888

-       Barcelona International Exposition (Expo 1929)

-       Summer Olympics Games in 1992

-       Universal Forum of Cultures in 2004


The favourable climate with its average annual temperature on 20º is one of the many advantanges that the city holds for celebrating all sort of events, enjoying a Meditarrean climate with mild winters and warm summers.

Further than all this, Barcelona is one of the main DMC destinations in Spain and worlwide, and is nowadays known for its award-winning industrial design, its several congress halls, being notably Fira de Barcelona, the second largest trade fair and exhibitions centre in Europe that hosted a quickly growing number of national and international events each year.
