The International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA) has published its annual ranking of the cities and countries in the world which lead the Meeting Tourism Sector, and one more year Spain is one of the leading countries. Exactly, it is the 3rd in the world.
The remarkable position of Spain is mainly thanks to its capital city, Madrid, and its most visited city, Barcelona. Madrid has gone up to the 2nd position in the city ranking after having significantly improved in the most recent year. In fact, Madrid was in the position 22nd in 2008.
Last year Madrid held 186 events, 13% more than the previous year. A lot of them were undertaken by the Madrid Convention Bureau (MCB), an organisation which has been crucial for the success of Madrid in the Meeting Tourism Sector.
In the coming years Madrid will continue being important in this sector due to the meetings the city will hold: WATM Congress 2015 (6,500 people), Urology European Congress (8,000 p.) and EAGE 2015 (7,000 P.)
The ranking of the International Congress and Convention Association is lead by Paris, then Madrid, Vienna and in the forth position is Barcelona, which in 2012 was in the fifth one.
