Galicia is a region located in the northwest of Spain, with more than 1.500 km of coastline. Surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean, it’s widely popular for its rías, submerged valleys where the sea penetrates inland. Besides a unique shore, Galicia has some of the most amazing landscapes in Spain and outstanding cities, such as Santiago de Compostela or La Coruña.
With three airports, large exhibitions centres and a wide range of hotel accommodations, Galicia is a superb destination for any type of incentive travel.
Vigo is the largest metropolitan area in Galicia. Nevertheless, Santiago de Compostela is the most fascinating city. Final stage of the popular Camino de Santiago (The Way of Saint James, a famous catholic pilgrimage route), its old town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Santiago has one of the most prestigious universities in Spain. Even though, visitors looking for a more dynamic city may visit La Coruña.
The most forested area in Spain is Galicia. Actually, the region possesses some outstanding interior landscapes. But the unavoidable natural spaces to visit are the rías, the large and beautiful estuaries that shape the Galician coastline. The rías are divided into the gentle Rías Baixas and the larger and usually furious Rías Altas.
According to the regional government, the second touristic motivation to visit the area is the cuisine. Gastronomy is another main reason to discover Galicia: fish and seafood are the most common ingredients used in the Galicia´s recipes. Caldo Galego, empanadas, Pulpo a la Gallega and Tarta de Santiago are some of the most traditional dishes. Galicia produces high quality wines as well.
