Despite the complicated economic situation, the MICE sector in Spain has taken a positive stock of the past year.

According to a report published in the prestigious Spanish magazine Hosteltur, the local meetings and congress industry has proudly resisted last year.

Compared to 2011, cities such as Barcelona or Madrid hosted more events and activities last year, therefore more inbound visitors. On the other hand, the results for medium size and small cities did not fulfil these expectations. Even though, the MICE sector in Spain has proved its strength during 2012.

According to Hosteltur’s report: the financial crisis has been seen as an opportunity, and professionals have made an exceptional effort to diversify and internationalize its activities.

Perspectives for 2013 are more encouraging and automotive, pharmaceutical and technological industries will be the Spanish MICE engine over the next months.

The business events industry definitively has a major role within the Spanish Tourism and the predictions remain positive during 2013.
