El Celler de Can Roca has been crowned the world best restaurant by the prestigious British magazine ‘Restaurant’.
This has not been the first time in which El Celler de Can Roca (Girona, Catalonia, Spain) has won this award. The restaurant of the siblings Roca achieved this prize for the first time in 2013. After that success, it was overcome by the Danish Restaurant ‘Noma’ last year; and the Catalan restaurant has reached the top again this year.
El Celler de Can Roca is not the only restaurant based in Spain which is in the 50 Best List. There are other six (in total, seven) Spanish restaurants among the best 50 in the world. Many of them are located in the Basque Country (in northern Spain). The restaurant Mugaritz (Errenteria, Guipúzcoa) has been considered the world 6th best; the ‘asador’ Etxebarri (Atxondo, Vizcaya) is in the 13th position; the restaurant Arzak (San Sebastián) is the world 17th best; and Azurmendi (Larrabetzy, Vizcaya) is in the 19th position.
After the Basque influence, we find the Quique Dacosta Restaurant, in Dénia (Alicante) in the 39th position of the market, and the restaurant Tickets (Barcelona), owned by Albert Adrià, the brother of Ferran Adrià, in the 42th position.
