General Assembly Spain DMCs Association in Santander with participation of E&TB Group

The Spanish Association of Destination Management Companies celebrates its thirteenth General Assembly in Santander led by the President Juan Antonio Casas.

After welcoming  AIM Group International, which is incorporated as new members of the association, Juan Antonio Casas argued for the need to increase the number of chapters of the association, which address local issues and develop the DMC an individual action plan with providers and local institutions. It was agreed to create new chapters in the Balearic islands and Costa del Sol, for which unanimously Marco Iriondo and Jose Puebla were elected as their respective secretaries.

The new Board was formed by Juan Antonio Casas as President (re-elected), Rafael Guerrero as Vice President,  Marco Iriondo (Secretary of the Chapter in Balearic Islands), Ignacio Prat (Barcelona Chapter Secretary), Jose Puebla (Secretary Chapter  Costa del Sol), Begoña Cachero (Chapter Secretary Madrid) and Juan Antonio Sanchez (Secretary of the Sevilla Chapter), and Luis Diaz as executive Director of the Association.

Luis Diaz made a report of actions taken to date of the meeting, referring especially to the meetings with the new Secretary of State for Tourism and the new General Manager of Turespaña to discuss some of the matters that worries more the Spanish Dmc’s and asked for solutions. Amongst others, raised the desirability of new actions to promote Spanish destinations for MICE operations, the international promotion of the value added of Spanish DMC, VAT on the activity of the DMC, the damage being caused to the destinations on the Spanish coast implementing some aspects of the code of practice of the pharmaceutical industry or professional intrusion.

They also approved the new agreement for collaboration with different types of service providers that use the DMC, which will begin trading immediately. This agreement aims to establish a relationship of more mutual respect, recognizing both a preferential status of real partners.

To carry out these actions were approved budget for 2012 with an increase in expenditures of more than 115% over the previous year. However, membership fees will remain unchanged, achieving balance the budget through fees contributed by the new partners and collaborators.

Those attending the meeting were able to enjoy the hospitality and outstanding service that Cantabria offers, and especially the city of Santander, whose Mayor and Councillor for Tourism and Institutional Relations, and the Director General of Tourism, Government of Cantabria and the Mayor of San Vicente de la Barquera demonstrated by their presence in the events organized on the occasion of this assembly, the great interest of the institutions they represent, in the activities of the Spanish DMC and advocacy capacity in international markets, as destinations for meetings, incentive travel and corporate events.
