1.6 million tourists visited Catalonia to attend meetings, congresses or conferences during 2013. This means 15,7% more visitors than in 2012. They spent around €1.800 million, 27% more than last year.

Meeting Tourism is going on the right track in Catalonia. This has been the message widespread by the Agència Catalana de Turisme (Catalan Tourism Agency) after publishing the 2013 results. The secretary of the Department of Business and Competitiveness of the Catalan Government, Pere Torres, has highlighted that the Catalan Meeting Tourism “is doing it well” and that the quality tourism this Spanish region offers “cannot be just an slogan”, but also a reality.

The Catalan Tourism Agency, through the Catalunya Convention Bureau, has fixed the promotion strategy for 2014, and has determined the markets of the United Kingdom, Germany, France and Russia as the most important for the Catalan Tourism Sector. Furthermore, new initiatives will be undertaken in the next years to attract visitors form the Nordic Countries, the USA and the South-East of Asia.
